Dar > This is Arthur Cottage, Ancestral Home of Chester Alan Arthur, 21st President of the United States of America.
Dar > When we drove up the the home we were greeted by a guide who provided us with interesting information on Chester Alan Arthur and his family and demonstrated how linen was produced.
Dar > Here is a spinning wheel which was used in spinning the flax strands to eventually create all kinds of products.
Dar > A shot of some of the memorabilia in the cottage.
Dar > Chester Alan Arthur held office as President of the US from1881 - 1885. From this thatched cottage at Cullybackey, his father had set out for the New World.
Dar > Flowers added some color to the otherwise dark interior of the cottage.
Dar > In the bedroom was a doll that showed obvious wear from children playing with it.
Dar > From the cottage we then went in search of the "Dark Hedges". Sounds ominous doesn't it. Even when we asked one of the locals for directions, she wasn't able to tell us where it was. Finally we located it....
Dar > This row of Beech trees is known as "The Dark Hedges". A trust has been set up to help plant new trees which will eventually replace the old ones as they grow too old and have to be removed.. Some of these trees date back to the 1750's.
